Two-stage immigration to Taiwan by relatives for nationals without household registration

 Application for residency 

Stage 1

You can apply if you meet all the basic application conditions, and if approved, you can come to Taiwan to stay

The spouse and minor children of the main applicant who do not have registered permanent residence may also apply for residency in Taiwan if they meet the relevant conditions

Stage 2

 Apply for settlement 

If the Dependent Residence Permit obtained is of a type that can be applied for settlement in the future, you can apply for settlement in the future when you meet various application conditions including the number of days you will stay in Taiwan.

If the criteria are approved, you can then apply for citizenship and obtain a Taiwan ID card and passport.

The same applies to the spouses and minor children of unregistered nationals who come to Taiwan to live by relatives. If the obtained dependant residence permit belongs to the type that can be applied for settlement in the future, if they meet various application requirements including the number of days of residence in Taiwan in the future, they can also accompany them. Apply for settlement.

Nationals without registered permanent residence with specific status can directly apply for settlement.

E.g:

  • The current overseas Chinese elected legislator.

  • Special contributions to the country and society, or senior professionals needed in Taiwan.

  • Minor children born abroad of nationals with household registration living in Taiwan.

Dependent residence

  1. Meets the definition of a " non-domesticated national "

  2. National Police Record Certificate of the place of residence or residence

  3. Pass a residency health check

  4. Have relatives in Taiwan who meet the relevant status

​ ​*For non-registered nationals who can apply for dependent residence:

  • Those who have direct blood relatives who now have household registration in Taiwan, their spouses and minor children. ​*

  • Those with spouses who now have household registration in Taiwan, their spouses and minor children.

  • There are brothers and sisters who now have household registration in Taiwan, their spouses and minor children.

  • Parents with spouses now have household registration in Taiwan, their spouses and minor children. ​

  • Spouse and minor children of nationals without registered permanent residence who are approved to reside in the following categories :

​AF358, AF360, AF362, AF364, AF366,

AF382, AF384, AF385, AF387

Note*:

If the family relationship is due to adoption, the adoptee should be under the age of 12 and live together with the adopter in Taiwan, with a limit of two people.

​ Relatives [spouse/minor children] accompanying regulations

Relatives of unregistered nationals:

You can apply for Dependent Residence and accompany the main applicant of Dependent Residence when you come to Taiwan.

Relatives of foreigners, Hong Kong and Macao residents, and people from the mainland:

It is also possible to accompany the principal applicant for residency by relatives to apply for long-term residency in Taiwan , but the certificate of residence that can be applied for, the method of application, and whether it is issued or not are subject to relevant regulations and the competent authority will review the situation on a case-by-case basis.

Depending on the type of reason of residence, the number of days of residence in Taiwan required to apply for settlement can be roughly divided into three categories:

(1) Not subject to continuous residency or a certain period of residency.

(2)   must meet one of the three conditions:

A. 1 year of continuous residence:

Live in Taiwan for one year.

B. Residency for 2 years:

They have lived in Taiwan for 2 years and accumulated more than 270 days in Taiwan each year.

C. Residency for 5 years:

Have lived in Taiwan for 5 years and have accumulated more than 183 days in Taiwan each year.

(3)   must meet one of the three conditions:

A. 3 consecutive years of residence:

Live in Taiwan for 3 consecutive years.

B. Residency for 5 years:

Have lived in Taiwan for 5 years and have accumulated more than 270 days in Taiwan each year.

C. Residency for 7 years:

Have lived in Taiwan for 7 years, and have accumulated more than 183 days in Taiwan each year.

Provide relevant documents such as medical examination reports in accordance with the regulations of the competent authority.

The remaining conditions are subject to the requirements of the competent authority according to the individual circumstances.

The spouses and minor children of non-registered nationals who come to Taiwan to live by their relatives can also apply for residency if they obtain a residency permit for their relatives, and they can apply for residency in the future. .
